The Australian Institute of Architects announced this week BVN has been shortlisted for the
2020 NSW Architecture Awards.
The three projects shortlisted, highlight the ongoing evolution of BVN’s work, our commitment to lifelong learning and the integration of different types of learning places.
MLC School Senior Centre in Burwood NSW, Marrickville Library and John B Fairfax Learning Centre State Library of NSW, reflect BVN’s internal commitment to collective creativity, dismantling the concept of siloed design alongside connecting wellness, learning, workplace, placemaking, and communities.
These nominations represent a continuation of previous projects of this type for BVN. Award winning, Our Lady of Assumption School, for its sustainability with adaptive, re-use of an existing building, and cross laminated timber application. Double Bay Library, for its community connectivity, reframing how libraries work, highlighting the use of public spaces, and how they engage a community. It is this design thinking that has made us thought leaders in the field.
Marrickville Library, is nominated for both the Public Architecture and Sustainability award, reflecting the importance of both social sustainability and the sustainability of the fabric of the building.
MLC School Senior Centre nominated for Educational Architecture and John B Fairfax Learning Centre State Library of NSW for Small Project Architecture, leverages the transfer of learning from our innovation in workplace design through to education. We believe cross-sector sharing of knowledge, dialogue with outside experts, and engaging educational facilitators, strengthen our understanding of how the learning process takes place.
