Lighthouse Theatre launches biggest ever season

The highly anticipated 2022 Lighthouse Theatre Season is finally here!

Enjoying the magic of theatre is unique to each of us. We all come here for different reasons, and each walk away with a different experience and memory of every performance.

Lighthouse Theatre Service Manager Xavier Dannock said in 2022, it’s all about coming together and celebrating all the good things, and celebrating the fact that life is better when it’s live and in person.

“2022 marks our tenth anniversary as Lighthouse Theatre, and with that I am excited to announce the launch of our largest and best season yet with 20 main stage productions, 5 morning music productions, and 6 education and family productions,” Mr Dannock said.

“There is a great mix of performance genres next year, from classical and contemporary music, drama, opera, dance, cabaret, and circus.

“With such a broad range of shows coming next year, there truly is a show for everyone, and I expect to see many new faces enjoying live theatre performances at the Lighthouse Theatre next year.” Mr Dannock said.

The 2022 Theatre Season also brings a new focus on works that hopes to bring our diverse community together; including Indigenous focused performances like Saltbush, and LGBTI focused performances in Become The One, as well as works that tackle mainstream issues such as family and domestic violence against women in the studio performance of King of Pigs.

Next year’s season will also see increased accessibility to our patrons, with three performances being accompanied with live Auslan Interpretation.

“To coincide with our 2022 theme of Celebrating Together, it was only fitting that we increase our accessibility to our shows,” Mr Dannock said.

“Become The One, Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, and our family and education show of 13-Storey Treehouse will all be accompanied with live Auslan Interpretation.”

As well as having shows that challenge the social norms of what a performance is, Lighthouse Theatre will also welcome back some big name performances, such as Opera Australia returning with one of the opera classics, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville; Bell Shakespeare will also be returning in 2022 with one of their best known works The Comedy of Errors.

Shake & Stir Theatre Co. will also be returning with a performance that will set your mind alight with Jane Eyre, filled with significant pyrotechnic effects!

As well as many other well-known musical stars such as Denis Walter, John Bell & Simon Tedechi, Lior and Roman Rudnytsky who will take to the Steinway!

With the Lighthouse Theatre now operating at 100 per cent capacity, Mr Dannock said Thursday nights Theatre Season Launch night will be “just like old times!”

“It is great to feel a sense of confidence coming into our Theatre Season Launch night,” Mr Dannock said.

“The night’s schedule will be held as normal, and I am thrilled to have virtuoso violinist Roy Theaker and his dynamic six-piece band accompany the night as he plays all the classic hits that everyone knows and loves with a true theatrical twist that I know everyone will love.”

Mr Dannock said the launch is also about bringing together all of our dedicated members who have stood by us in these challenging times.

“Our launch night is important for many reasons, but is also a night to thank all of our dedicated theatre members for sticking around, and hopefully, to welcome a few new faces to our membership program!” he said.

“Anyone can sign up to our membership program, with two different tiers to ensure it is affordable for all, or if you select four or more theatre season shows upfront, membership is free!

“Our membership program comes with a number of great deals, such as discounted tickets, suppers, meet and greets, deferred payment, 5% off bar purchases, and presale bookings to get the best seats in the house!”
