Swan Hill will soon be shining brightly in the spotlight, when a spectacular light display comes to town, commencing this Friday night.
Director Development and Planning Heather Green said Council was delighted to be bringing the breathtaking light display to the town, for the community and visitors to enjoy.
“‘Yana Waingi,’ meaning Walk in Lights, will run from 21-30 April in Swan Hill. Participants will journey through a spectacle of light and sound at Riverside Park, Swan Hill.
“The event will be launched with an opening ceremony at the entrance to the display on Friday, 21 April,” Ms Green said.
Ms Green said the show was set to be impressive and connect visitors to our region’s rich history and culture.
“Participants can expect to explore light sculptures, laser effects, interactive projections and magical holograms – engaging and immersing visitors with a showcase of history, art, community icons and First Nation culture – right throughout Riverside Park” she said.
Ms Green said to ensure the smooth running of the spectacular event and in the interests of public safety, there would be some minor disruptions.
“The majority of Riverside Park will be closed off for the duration of the display, however all play elements will still be accessible.
“Minor changes to surrounding roads and footpaths are also expected. A portion of the Riverside Park footpath, that runs adjacent to the river, will be closed nightly from 5pm to 6am from Tuesday, 18 April to Monday, 1 May.
“In addition, from Tuesday, 18 April to 1 May, the internal road into the Riverside Park will be closed.
“Speed reduction signage will be in place along Monash Drive from Friday, 21- Sunday, 30 April restricting traffic speed to 40 km/hr,” Ms Green added.
Ms Green encouraged people to head along and enjoy the spectacular event.
“It is going be fun for the entire family and a great interactive way to learn about our region’s rich history,” she added.
