Northern Territory Police have seized a quantity of liquor and cannabis destined for alcohol protected areas between Thursday 3 September and Wednesday 16 September.
Approximately 88 litres of alcohol and 554 grams of cannabis was seized following coordinated traffic patrols of Cahill’s Crossing, Adelaide River, Daly River, Wadeye and Peppimenarti.
Police seized three vehicles that were used to transport alcohol.
Five people were issued with notices to appear in court for offences including bring liquor into alcohol protected area, possess/control liquor in alcohol protected area, and possess schedule 2 drug traffickable quantity. Three liquor infringement notices were issued to others.
Investigations are ongoing.
Senior Sergeant David Young said, “Police will continue our efforts in stopping the flow of alcohol and dangerous drugs into vulnerable remote communities. Alcohol and cannabis can have significant impacts on those residing in remote communities ranging from alcohol related violence to property offending. We will continue to target persons attempting to unlawfully transport large volumes of liquor and cannabis in efforts to keep our community members safe”.
