Listening to Bush: Gapuwiyak Community Cabinet Marks ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Reconciliation Week

The Territory Labor GovernmentsCommunity Cabinet will move to East Arnhem this week, with Aboriginal Affairspolicy at the forefront of discussion as Australia marks ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ ReconciliationWeek.

Priorities during the week-longGapuwiyak Community Cabinet will be the continued rollout of the Governmentskey policy of Local Decision Making, homelands policy, remote housing and regionaleconomic development.

³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Reconciliation Weekbegins each year on 27 May, the date Australians overwhelmingly voted forAboriginal people to be included in the Census in 1967, and finishes on 3 June,the date of the landmark, 1992 Mabo decision, in which the High Court ofAustralia recognised native title for the first time.

Reconciliation Week is animportant opportunity for Australians to recognise and celebrate Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander culture and heritage.
