After a highly successful local art competition, several finalists from the Lithgow LGA were among the top prize winners in the 2023 Waste 2 Art regional competition opening ceremony at the Platform Arts Hub in Blayney. The regional exhibition opened on Saturday 22 July with a special awards ceremony at the unique Platform Arts Hub on Blayney Railway Station. 4 awards and $1,500 in prize money were presented to Lithgow artists by the Mayor of Blayney, Scott Ferguson.
Kathy Avgoulas from Hermitage Flat won first prize and $500 in the Creative Repair, Restore and Refurbish category for her beautiful textile entry titled ‘Grandmas legacy of doilies’.
Lithgow Artist Prue Mogg won the Curator’s award and $500 for her gorgeous textiles and mixed media Open 3D sculptural collection titled Australian Fauna -Wrapped’.
Students from Zig Zag Public school received the Colin Jones Memorial Award and $500 for their fantastic mixed media sculpture titled ‘Gugaa (Goanna).
Lithgow artist Jessical Anne Leffley also received a Highly Commended award in the Open 2D category for her stunning mixed-media wall hanging titled ‘The Forgotten Song’.
The regional exhibition is open to the public until 20 August from 10.00am – 4.00pm each Wednesday to Friday and 10.00am to 2.00pm weekends at the Platform Arts Hub, Blayney Railway Station, Cnr Adelaide St and Railway Lane, Blayney NSW 2799.
