Territorians with a lived and living experience of mental ill-health and suicide are being encouraged to have their say on the development of the first draft Lived Experience Framework.
The Lived Experience Framework aims to support community and mental health services in the NT to co-design services with Territorians with experiences of mental illness, ensuring mental health and suicide prevention services are meaningful, culturally safe, respectful and accessible.
Once finalised, the Lived Experience Framework will promote and advocate for inclusion of a range of lived experience voices in mental health services across the NT, assisting to reduce stigma and support recovery.
It will also enhance existing services, providing evidence-based guidance for mental health workers and ensuring individuals experiencing mental ill health are at the centre of their own health and community care.
The Lived Experience Framework will align with the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Agreement on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Mental Health Commission’s recommendations to enhance the engagement of people with lived experience in the co-design and review of current mental health and wellbeing services.
Carers, service providers and Territorians with a lived and living experience of mental
ill-health and suicide are encouraged to submit feedback on the draft NT Lived Experience Framework by 31 August 2023.

Quotes from Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Lauren Moss:
“Evidence shows that working in partnership with people with a lived and living experience leads to better health outcomes and improved services.
“Lived experience can play an important role in building recovery-oriented approaches to care through advocacy, providing meaningful, non-clinical support to people with similar lived experience and modelling hope for recovery.”
