Liverpool City Council, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre (CPAC), Liverpool City Library and Liverpool Regional Museum together have released an extensive program in celebration of NSW Seniors Festival, culminating in Council’s annual two-day Seniors Concert on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 March 2022.
One of the most highly anticipated events in Council’s annual calendar, this year’s Seniors Concert will be held at William Inglis Hotel. Following on from last year’s success, the event will combine a High Tea, light entertainment, and an expo of up to 25 organisations working to improve the quality of life of seniors in the Liverpool community.
Mayor of Liverpool Ned Mannoun said seniors are an important part of Liverpool’s story.
“We want to be known as a City that meets the absolute basic needs of each member of our community and recognises what they can positively contribute regardless of their age.
“We listened to our attendees loud and clear who wanted the expo to remain an ongoing feature of this event.
“The expo helps cut through perennial issues facing seniors within our community including the inability to obtain information relevant to their daily lives because of limited access to technology or confidence navigating the digital space.
“William Inglis Hotel will provide an elegant backdrop for our evolved event and will help us cater to the growing demand for tickets each year, making it possible to bring this fantastic experience to as many people as possible,” Mayor Mannoun said.
This Seniors Concert will take place during the NSW Seniors Festival (25 March – 3 April), embodying the week’s theme of reconnection throughout each component of the event.
“After such as an isolating period for everyone – especially for our elderly and most vulnerable – this event will encourage seniors to ‘reconnect’ with fellow seniors and providers in the local community all while enjoying a fabulous day outing. If you are a senior living in Liverpool and haven’t yet attended this event, now is your chance,” Mayor Mannoun said.
The musical performances will continue during NSW Seniors Festival with a matinee performance on 31 March at CPAC. The Song Catchers is a tribute to iconic recording artists Shirley Bassey, Peter Allen and Karen Carpenter by three talented performers and will be accompanied by complimentary tea or coffee and cake.
Libraries across the Liverpool Local Government Area will also be running a busy program of events for local seniors including a special Grandparents Storytime, a guided library tour and morning tea, information sessions and a performance by the Antegra Harmonics Choir.
Meanwhile, Liverpool Regional Museum will transport seniors back in time with two interesting information sessions. The first, held on 23 March, will tackle how best to use the resources available online and at the Family History Centre to uncover the lives of ancestors passed. This will be followed by a curator-led Museum Tour on 8 April which will include an interactive element with household objects from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
