Sadly the number of lives lost on your roads has now reached 111 following the death of three people recently involved in road crashes.
This morning, at about 10.50am on Friday 27 December, emergency services responded to reports of a single car rollover on Torrens Valley Road, just outside Birdwood heading towards Mount Pleasant.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, a 46-year-old man from Mannum died at the scene.
Torrens Valley Road remains closed between Birdwood and Black Snake Road while Major Crash investigators examine the scene.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and take an alternate route if possible.
Sadly, police now investigate a further two road deaths following recent crashes in the last week.
On Friday 20 December at about 6.40pm, a male cyclist was riding on Pierre Street at Modbury, when he fell from his bike causing serious head injuries.
The 38-year-old man from Modbury was conveyed to hospital but sadly died on Thursday 26 December. No other vehicles were involved.
Police were not aware of the crash and did not attend at the time, but have since been notified of his death which is now being investigated.
Police are also investigating another road fatality, after an elderly man died in hospital this morning as a result of a road crash.
At about 9.30am on Saturday 21 December, a Holden Commodore sedan travelling south on Findon Road at Flinders Park, collided with an 81-year-old male pedestrian as he stepped onto the road to walk east.
The injured man from Kidman Park was conveyed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries. Sadly the man died in hospital on Friday 27 December from his injuries. Police patrols attended at the time, but Major Crash Investigators have taken custody of the investigation.
South Australia Police cannot reiterate enough how important it is for all road users to take care, whether they are driving, riding or acting as a pedestrian. We would like to remind drivers, especially those that may be travelling on country roads over this holiday period, to obey all road rules and drive responsibly.
The number of lives lost this year has now reached 111 compared to 77 at the same time last year.
