LNP’s $100b Cuts Threaten ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s For Queenslanders

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Planning and Minister for Public Works The Honourable Meaghan Scanlon
  • Thousands of homes in Queensland under threat with LNP’s $100 billion cuts
  • LNP cuts revealed to include $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund and $5.5 billion Help to Buy scheme
  • Federal funding critical to state’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders plan, which will deliver one million more homes, including 53, 500 social homes

Thousands of Queensland homes will be on the chopping block under the LNP, following revelations they would cut $100 billion across the country.

Queensland Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon launched a scathing attack on the LNP after it was revealed they would take an axe to the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund and $5.5 billion Help to Buy scheme at a time when Australians need more homes.

The threat to cut the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund means 30,000 social and affordable homes are in jeopardy of never being built, including thousands slated for Queensland.

Additionally, flagged cuts to the $5.5 billion Help to Buy scheme means more than 8,000 Queenslanders are set to lose out on the opportunity for home ownership.

Federal funding is critical for the Miles Government’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s for Queenslanders plan, which will deliver one million more homes, including 53,500 social homes.

Minister Scanlon has called out Peter Dutton and the LNP for their $100 billion razor gang, and called on David Crisafulli to join the government in renouncing the cuts to Queensland homes.

As stated by Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:

“The LNP have sharpened their knives, ready to cut thousands of homes for Queenslanders.

“News that the LNP will cut $100 billion in critical projects should leave every Queenslander worried about housing in this state.

“The LNP voted against 30,000 social and affordable homes, and have spent months railing against home ownership for thousands of Queenslanders – now it’s clear why, because the first thing they want to do is take an axe to them.

“There are thousands of homes right now being considered for Queensland through the Housing Australia Future Fund, and they’re all at risk if the LNP get their way.

“Just like their LNP mates in Canberra, David Crisafulli and Tim Mander have a record of cuts to infrastructure and housing. They did it before and they’ll do it again.

“These revelations confirm, Queensland just cannot risk the LNP at any level of government.”
