Local Area Movement Plans to reshape transport

Cyclists, drivers, pedestrians and public transport users are being asked to reshape our northern transport network.

Council is developing Local Area Movement Plans (LAMPs) for the northern area of Hobsons Bay, incorporating the suburbs of Brooklyn, Altona North, Newport, South Kingsville, Spotswood and Williamstown North. The community can have its say until Tuesday 5 January 2021.

The LAMPs will address the key challenges and constraints in the existing local transport network throughout the northern region of Hobsons Bay.

They also aim to improve the way our community travels through our city on roads, public transport, the cycling network and footpaths.

A five-year framework for the Northern LAMPs will be developed to guide Council’s infrastructure planning and implementation and assist with our advocacy to state and federal governments to help maintain a safe, well connected, efficient and accessible transport network.

The Hobsons Bay community has provided information on opportunities and challenges within the network over recent years. This information has been summarised into Issues Papers for each area and Council is asking the community for feedback and to see if anything has been missed. This is an important step that enables Council to be sure that all challenges have been appropriately reflected within our draft LAMPs to be developed for further public consultation in March 2021.

As stated by Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Jonathon Marsden

“We are working to improve our local transport network so that our community can reliably and safely get around smoothly and efficiently. The Local Area Movement plans will build on the great feedback already provided and will prioritise Council’s works program while also strengthening our position to advocate for change. I am particularly interested in the areas of active transport and how we can best incorporate that into our planning.

“The LAMPs are documents that look to the future and I would encourage our local community to take part in the process to ensure transport in years to come – whether that be walking, riding, driving or on public transport – reflects the system and network that our community wants to see.”
