Local Capability Fund to boost WA health and medical life sciences

  • WA Government’s Local Capability Fund to support seven WA-based health and medical life sciences companies in gaining international quality certifications
  • Successful health and medical life sciences businesses will receive grants of $20,000
  • Industry-specific round of the Local Capability Fund aims to support delivery of outcomes in the Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy.

Western Australian health and medical life sciences companies will receive grants of $20,000 towards gaining two accreditations with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

This round of the Local Capability Fund (LCF) was specific to small and medium-sized enterprises operating within the health and medical life sciences sector or working in partnership with companies in this field.

Funding to support growth in this sector is part of the WA Government’s $8.65 million commitment to deliver on the actions outlined in its Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy.

The grants will support the recipient companies to become accredited in internationally-recognised quality standards – ISO 9001, which relates to quality management, and ISO 13485:2016, which is specific to the management of medical devices.

The $20,000 LCF grants support health and medical life sciences companies to gain necessary accreditations, which are often a key requirement to supply products to markets in Australia and overseas.

The seven successful applicants were:

  • 9bit concept Pty Ltd;
  • Customa Pty Ltd;
  • Inspiring Holdings Pty Ltd;
  • Resonance Health Analysis Services Pty Ltd;
  • St Francis Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd;
  • TriPhasic Cardiac Pump Pty Ltd; and
  • VeinTech Pty Ltd.

As stated by Science Minister Stephen Dawson:

“We know that getting ISO accreditation can be a crucial, yet costly step towards being able to supply products to major markets.

“That’s why the Cook Government is proud to support local health and medical life sciences companies with $20,000 in funding to overcome this challenge.

“The Local Capability Fund is just one of the ways we are helping this thriving sector, which is now gaining recognition on the world stage.”
