Art enthusiasts will be able to enjoy yet another exciting local exhibition, with the winner of last year’s Hornsby Art Prize Emerging Artist Award set to unveil her latest works next month at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, Hornsby.
Amelia Ruggerio sealed the 2022 Emerging Artist Award and won a fully supported exhibition, along with prize money for her winning painting, Farm: Seated.
Ruggerio’s much-anticipated exhibition is titled ‘And Other Things’ and will showcase several recent paintings which focus on the theme of everyday existence. The Hornsby-based talent aims to capture and illuminate the beauty in the moments of ordinary life and draws on her immediate surroundings as inspiration and subject matter.
The award was delivered through the Hornsby Art Prize last year and was open to early career artists who are within the first five years of their career, and who reside in Hornsby Shire. The award was designed to celebrate and support local artists, whilst sharing locally developed artistic content with the community.
Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock has encouraged residents to turn out in strong numbers at this impressive upcoming art event, in support of our local artistic talent.
“Council is pleased to continue its support of the arts and cultural landscape in our local area. This is another great opportunity for local art lovers to experience unique and thought-provoking artworks up-close in Hornsby Shire,” Mayor Ruddock said.
Ruggerio demonstrated her artistic talent from a young age, exploring a range of mediums including painting, printmaking, textiles and ceramics. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2019 at UNSW Art and Design.
Ruggerio is no stranger to success, having been shortlisted in several art prizes, including the Pop-Up Posters at Paddington Library and the Mosman Youth Art Prize.
“I am delighted to have the chance to showcase my first solo exhibition. It’s exciting to receive the support of my community as I take my first major step in my artistic career. It is especially meaningful as I grew up and still live in the local area,” Ruggerio said.
The exhibition will run from 8-14 June at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, 25 Edgeworth Avenue, Hornsby. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm. Free entry.
