Cancer Awareness Day, World Pride celebrations and a Community Book Fair are among the local initiatives supported by the Willoughby City Council Community Grants Program.
During February, Council approved $13,800 through the Grants for the Community Program to support a range of local activities and events including:
- $7500 to Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Sydney Ltd for a three-day Community Book Fair which through the sale of preloved books, aims to encourage community development and engagement while fundraising for suicide prevention.
- $2300 to CanCare Centre Incorporated for a Cancer Awareness Day which aims to provide information, support and encouragement to cancer patients, their carers, and the community; with a focus on medical and well-being information; sharing patient experiences; and finding ways to manage the challenges that fighting cancer presents.
- $4000 to Macada Pty Ltd to celebrate World Pride at The Iceworks Willoughby, an inaugural family event, coinciding with World Pride 2023 to celebrate the LGBTQA+ community in Willoughby while promoting local businesses, artists, entertainers, and producers.
On announcing the grants, Willoughby City Mayor Tanya Taylor said, ‘Willoughby City Council is proud of the contribution that the Grants for the Community Program has made to so many local community organisations over many years.’
‘So far this year, I am delighted to see the range of events and activities being supported.’
The Grants for the Community Program is open all year round and applications can be submitted via the Council website.
