Local jobseekers are being encouraged to apply for 122 new jobs at Melton City Council, made possible under the Victorian Government’s Working for Victoria fund.
City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli said the Working for Victoria fund would provide six-month employment opportunities to those in the community who needed it most.
“The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are far-reaching and we know many locals have been significantly impacted and now find themselves in financial hardship,” Cr Carli said.
“We are very pleased to be partnering with the Victorian Government through this important initiative. It will help locals who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic or have been without work longer, to get back to work.”
The project will focus on new jobs that are needed to provide critical services across the City of Melton in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
Council will be employing new staff across a range of areas, including:
- Administrative support
- Waste management, including roadside litter collection
- Environmental works, including weed removal, tree planting and path establishment
- Cleaning and sanitation of buildings, public spaces and transport
- Outdoor maintenance including painting community infrastructure
- Supervisory and coordination roles
- Asset data collection and input, and
- Human resources.
Melton City Council is one of 10 new councils to have signed up to the Victorian Government’s $500 million program. More than 8,500 Victorians have found positions through Working for Victoria since the program was launched in April, providing a quick return to work and access to training where required.
