Local musicians chosen to support The Velvet Club at major youth event

‘Jam’, a collective of local young musicians, has shortlisted some local music acts to support Melbourne band The Velvet Club at a gig at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre on November 24.

Tom Barras, Charlotte Dahl and Traffik will support the popular indie-rock band at the all-ages FReeZA event, with more acts to be announced.

Southern Grampians Shire Council’s Youth Engagement Officer Emily Anderson, who facilitates ‘Jam’, said the live music event would showcase emerging local musicians between 12 and 25 years.

“The event will also help to nurture their confidence by giving them the unique chance to perform in front of a supportive crowd including family and friends,” said Ms Anderson.

“Excitement is at an all-time high for this motivated group of young people, so I encourage the community to book a ticket to support them and be part of a very special event.”

‘Jam’ is a group of young people passionate about music and dedicated to highlighting local music talent and planning music events in the shire. The initiative is supported by Victorian Government FReeZA funding, which is available to help young people lead, plan and develop the delivery of music, cultural and recreational events in their local community.

‘Jam’ leader, Felicity Shaw said she was “excited to bring young local talent to the forefront, rejuvenate the young music scene and highlight the greatness of talent in this town.”

Fellow ‘Jam’ leader Jas Young added: “We have been working hard behind the scenes to get this event happening and we would love everyone to get behind our young artists, enjoy the music and have a great time.”

Forming in 2018 in Melbourne, The Velvet Club is a five-piece indie rock band that has taken their emphatic live show from backyard gigs to playing support for the likes of Great Gable, Eskimo Joe, Dulcie, Pacific Avenue and Death by Denim.

Tickets for the gig are available at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre by calling 5573 0429 or visiting www.hamiltonpac.com.au.
