Local physio clinic embraces business online
Equip Physiotherapy in Horsham are helping their existing Pilates clients by offering their regular sessions online via Zoom. This service is being offered to these clients for free, as a thank you for their ongoing support of the business. From week to week, roughly 16 people gather as the Equip physio team help them keep moving during lockdown.
Equip Physiotherapy’s owner Shannyn explains that when people undergo changes to their routines, this is when they are most likely to get sore. During lockdown people working from home might find themselves sitting down for longer periods, working from the couch, or taking on physically challenging projects, like painting the house or a backyard tidy up blitz.
They might also take up new exercise regimes to stay active whilst not being able to go to the gym. Shannyn notes that with anything new, it is important to ease into it and let your body get used to these new activities.
“Starting off slowly is always the safest option”.
Another innovation that Equip Physiotherapy has made is offering telehealth consultations for new and existing clients. Shannyn says that quite a lot can be achieved through video consultations, including observing peoples range of movement and assessing muscular and skeletal conditions.
“Clients have been surprised by what they can get out of a telehealth session and are really getting on board.”
During the online sessions physios can give advice and set exercise programs, which are then emailed through, along with videos of the exercises.
This option is especially accessible for people who otherwise would have to drive long distances, and those who are vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic. Shannyn notes that she is certainly keen to continue this service once the lockdown is over.
For serious issues such as vertigo and prolonged headaches, clients are still allowed to have a face-to-face consultations with their physio.
Despite a slowing of business when restrictions were first put in place, Shannyn has noted that in the last few weeks her practise is getting quite busy again, and is pleased with the uptake of online consultations.
As for her Pilates class, along with being kind to their bodies, they are also enjoying the chance for some interaction and banter with other group members during the session.
It is important to note that the participants in the online Pilates classes are seasoned Pilates attendees, and are already familiar with the exercises being undertaken.
