A local Lithgow scrap metal business has been found guilty and fined for failing to comply with a Clean-up Notice issued by Lithgow City Council.
A local Lithgow company has been found guilty in Lithgow Local Court for failing to comply with a direction to take clean-up action in relation to alleged environmental pollution.
The matter was heard by Lithgow Local Court on Thursday 14 October 2021, where the company was found guilty of the offence and fined $5,000 with $750 in Court costs.
Council’s General Manager, Craig Butler said today “Unfortunately, despite working with this business to try and ensure pollutants do not enter the environment they were not able to comply with their responsibilities and were found guilty and fined for their non-compliance”.
Mr Butler added “Council takes environmental breaches very seriously, because we have a wonderful environment. If any businesses or member of the community are unsure of their obligations under environmental legislation, they can contact Council’s environmental health officers who are always available to provide guidance.”
