Living & Learning Nillumbik will be celebrating Neighbourhood House Week 2023 with a series of special events at their three Neighbourhood Houses: Diamond Creek, Eltham and Panton Hill.
This year’s theme – ‘Locals Connecting Locals’ – recognises the important role that individual participants, volunteers and helpers play in building vibrant and welcoming Neighbourhood House communities.
Events include a unique opportunity for the community-led creation of a new mural in Diamond Creek. The mural design and installation will be supported by local artist Angharad Neal-Williams.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said “this new mural is a great opportunity for the community to create something together – something that will no doubt bring joy for years to come”.
Other special events include a macramé workshop at Diamond Creek, floristry or kombucha-making at Eltham and a free morning tea in the community garden for Panton Hill locals.
Neighbourhood Houses are inclusive community-based spaces welcoming people of all ages, abilities and walks of life. They provide a place to share, learn and connect, creating opportunities for people to enrich their lives through connections they might not otherwise make.
There are more than 1,000 neighbourhood houses, community houses and centres across Australia, with five located in the Shire of Nillumbik: Allwood House (in Hurstbridge), Wadambuk St Andrews Community Centre, and Living & Learning Nillumbik’s three Neighbourhood Houses (Diamond Creek, Eltham and Panton Hill).
