The works of one of Australia’s most highly regarded contemporary artists will go on display at the Logan Art Gallery from Friday night (March 8).
The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art touring exhibition comprises about 200 drawings from the complete set of 2400 portraits from artist Robert MacPherson’s largest work Boss Drovers.
City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson Councillor Steve Swenson said the new exhibition round from this Friday, March 8 to Saturday, April 27 featured some interesting and thought-provoking pieces.
“Queensland Art Gallery’s Curatorial Manager of Australian Art Peter McKay will be at the Logan Art Gallery on Friday night to take people on an informative tour through the Boss Drovers exhibition and launch the new exhibition round,” Cr Swenson said.
The free tour is from 5.30pm with the opening scheduled for 6pm. No bookings are required.
Cr Swenson also encouraged people to visit the Workshop Wonders XVII exhibition which features student works from the Logan Art Gallery’s workshop program.
“The works have been chosen to highlight the gallery’s workshop program which is an integral part of the City of Logan’s visual arts education and cultural experience,” Cr Swenson said.
This exhibition round also includes:
* Nancy Brown and FS Helfisch: Archaeology – An immersive installation of paintings, sculpture, prints and objects, which explore the process of creating artwork as a form of personal archaeology.
* Sandra Pearce: Fading to grey – The artist contemplates how destructive changes to her local environment have impacted her personal relationship with the natural world. Her exhibition includes diverse art forms including monoprinting, papercutting and sculpture to encourage the viewer to consider their own impact on the environment.
Tied in with the new exhibition round will be a number of special activities including:
* An art and archaeology workshop – Meet some archaeologists to discover how they work with artists. Try some of the techniques in this practical session at the Logan Art Gallery from 2pm to 4pm this Saturday (March 9).
* An exhibition talk and morning tea – Logan Art Gallery co-ordinator Michael Wardell will lead an informal tour through the new exhibitions from 10am to 11.30am on Friday, March 15. No bookings are needed.
* Fresco painting for adults with Nancy Brown and FS Helfisch – This workshop is for adults and older teens who will create a fresco using lime plaster with pigments and explore fresco painting onto embossed, cast and poured plaster surfaces. The workshop is from 10am to 4.30pm on Friday, March 15.
