Science, the environment and art are the focus of Logan Art Gallery’s latest exhibitions which will be officially launched tonight.
Four new exhibitions will be on display at the gallery until July 27. Admission is free.
The new exhibition program features a range of events and activities which tie into the environmental theme and provide a further insight into the works on display.
The exhibitions include:
*Quadrat by Michelle Vine and Jeanette Stok which melds art and science. Jeanette is a research scientist and practising artist and Michelle is a contemporary artist initiating citizen science projects. The exhibition demonstrates how art and science can inform each other to create meaning and knowledge.
*World Environment Day poster exhibition – to be held in the Young People’s Gallery, the exhibition highlights local students’ environmental concerns. Young Logan artists have created a collection of vibrant artworks for World Environment Day which is an annual global event for positive environmental action.
*Gradual Change considers the history and future of environmental conservation in the City of Logan.Caitlin Franzmann and Man Cheung present observations of the surrounding landscape with stories of local nature enthusiasts, scientists, First Nations Traditional Owners and activists.
*It’s the little things highlights the daily lives of insects and animals through a series of acrylic paintings and small sculptures by Sally Terare. The Springwood artist has explored how little things exist, interact and connect on a greater scale.
Tonight’s opening will feature a drawing performance by exhibiting artist Jeanette Stok from 5.30pm.
The community can enjoy an informal tour through the exhibitions with a Logan Art Gallery representative from 10am next Friday (June 28).
Artists Caitlin Franzmann and Dhana Merritt will also share their experiences and knowledge of the medicinal and spiritual potential of plants in a free Mutual making: Divination readings and tea drinking session.
The session will run from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, July 6 in the gallery courtyard.
The community can also listen to a robust discussion in The Great Debate at the gallery on Saturday, July 13.
Running from 2pm to 4pm, a panel of artists and environmentalists will argue the topic Nature should be protected to improve well-being.
The gallery is on the corner of Jacaranda Ave and Wembley Rd, Logan Central.
It is open between 10am and 5pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
