The City of Logan is proud to be part of the team this Queensland Road Safety Week.
This week (Monday, August 26 to Friday, August 30) is Queensland’s 10th annual Road Safety Week.
This year, Queensland drivers are being reminded that everyone is on ‘One Team’ when it comes to road safety.
Mayor Jon Raven said the message was one the City of Logan was ready to get behind.
“We’re team players by nature in the City of Logan and we all share the same goal of getting ourselves – and our loved ones – home safe,” Cr Raven said.
“Our streets are safest when everyone works together, which is why Council works alongside local police, ambulance and transport officers in reducing road trauma.”
Council’s Road Safety and Active Transport Advisory Group Chair, Cr Miriam Stemp, said all road users have a role to play in keeping local streets safe.
“Queensland Road Safety Week is an important reminder to all drivers, motorbike riders, cyclists and pedestrians to adopt safe behaviours every time we’re on the road,” Cr Stemp said.
“Even the smallest of decisions on our local streets can have a large impact on the safety of our community as a whole.”
Police will conduct a series of enforcement operations during Queensland Road Safety Week, targeting the ‘Fatal Five’ – speeding, drink or drug driving, distraction, fatigue and failure to wear a seatbelt.
Logan District Acting Superintendent Tim Mowle said all road users should take some time this week to reflect on their own driving behaviours.
“Seventeen people are killed or seriously injured every day on Queensland roads,” Supt Mowle said.
“Queensland Road Safety Week is focused on preventing this road trauma on our roads and is an opportunity for all road users to reflect on their own driving behaviours and raise awareness through conversations with family and friends.”
