Logan libraries feel the force of Star Wars story time

Dioramas from the Star Wars movies created by Bethania fan Ron Doak will be on display at Logan North Library during this month’s Star Wars Reading activity.

Logan City Council Libraries will host a morning in a galaxy far, far, away this month as it celebrates Star Wars Reads.

Two of the city’s libraries will join the international month-long celebration of reading and Star Wars in October.

Stories, crafts and other activities will be held on Saturday, October 19, from 10.30am at Logan North and Logan West libraries.

The Logan North Library will also feature a display of dioramas built by Bethania-based Star Wars fan Ron Doak.

Mr Doak has built dioramas for Star Wars episodes I to VIII and the movies Rogue One and Solo.

Full-size and miniature models are designed to capture the minute details of different Star Wars scenes.

Mr Doak is keen to encourage children to make dioramas, a hobby he first took up about eight years ago.

He spends many hours working on each scene, making it reflect the movies it is drawn from as closely as possible.

“Unfortunately, my (day) job gets in the way,” he laughed.

Mr Doak is always on the lookout for items to feature in his dioramas.

He said he became hooked on Star Wars after the first movie was released in 1977 when he was 22-years-old.

Today, he has a massive Star Wars display and is a member of The Redback Garrison which is the Brisbane-based Star Wars costume group.
