Tasmanian manufacturing and defence companies are going from strength to strength as a result of the Rockliff Liberal Government’s long-term plan to create more jobs and grow Tasmania’s economy.
Visiting Jayben Group today, Premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said advanced manufacturers in Tasmania are major employers for regional Tasmanians.
“Jayben is just one of more than 100 companies our Government has helped through our defence and advanced manufacturing programs and services,” the Premier said.
“Jayben’s success is a fantastic example of how the Tasmanian advanced manufacturing and defence industry is going from strength to strength, securing the jobs of thousands of Tasmanians now and into the future.
“We know that when industry and business are doing well and on the growth trajectory, Tasmanians are doing well.
“Jayben has been operating successfully from the North West of Tasmania for 20 years and we are proud to support them with their expansion plans which will deliver a growth in demand for their products for both defence and civil projects.
“Jayben is a great example of Tasmanian ingenuity and just one of Tasmania’s local companies making its mark in selling world-leading defence products to Australia, and around the world.”
The expansion has seen Jayben successfully awarded work under the Australian Army’s LAND 129 Phase 3 contract to deliver next generation tactical uncrewed aerial system, or air vehicles. As a result of this contract, Jayben is planning to employ up to 10 more staff over the next 6-12 months to keep up with demand for their products.
“That’s another 10 Tasmanian families who could be living anywhere in our regions from Smithton through to Sassafras – who will now have job security and can put food on the table for their families, which is great news,” the Premier said.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to support regional jobs by connecting businesses on the North West with local workers through the Regional Jobs Hub Network’s West North West Working hub.
“Whether it’s in the inner cities, or in rural and regional communities, our Government is delivering on its long-term plan to create jobs and grow Tasmania’s economy.”
There are now 54,900 more Tasmanians in jobs than when the Liberal’s came to Government in 2014, with a record high of 290,000 Tasmanians now in work.
