Cairns Regional Council is hosting a range of activities to keep the kids occupied these school holidays.
From workshops to reading activities, traversing walking tracks and learning about our native flora and fauna, there are a host of facilities and activities to keep the whole family occupied.
Here are a few ideas for parents these school holidays.
Cairns Libraries
From tabletop fantasy role playing games and LEGO constructions, to magic shows and wearable art, the Cairns Libraries Easter school holiday program provides activities for a range of ages and interests.
Running from 4 April to 13 April, activities include the popular White Wizard Magic Show, STEAM Explorer Stations and Dungeons & Dragons adventures.

Cairns Libraries Easter school holiday program:
Dungeons & Dragons Adventures for beginners: Monday 4 April at Stratford Library from 11am to midday. Lose yourself in the fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragons. Come along for a game of storytelling, where everything is your decision, from what you look like to how you act to what happens next. (Ages 12+)
Wearable Arts Workshop: Tuesday 5 April at City Library from 9am to 3pm. A workshop where art collides with fashion and costumery. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring along anything you think may be useful. (BYO lunch/snacks. Ages 12+)
STEAM Explorer Station – LittleBits Circuits: Tuesday 5 April at Gordonvale Library from 10.30am to 11.30am. LittleBits are easy-to-use electronic building blocks that snap together with magnets to make learning about circuitry and electronics exciting and engaging.
LEGO Mania and Story Writing: Wednesday 6 April at City Library from 10.30am to 11.30am. Get creative these school holidays and get involved in a “fantasticly” fun LEGO Mania session. Build, construct and then write a story about your creation.
STEAM Explorer Station – LittleBits Circuits: Wednesday 6 April at Earlville Library from 10.30am to 11.30am.
Street Dance Workshop: Wednesday 6 April at Smithfield Library from 11am to midday. Get moving and grooving with this hip-hop dance class. For children aged 12 and over, this workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced.
Maker Space – Paper Planes: Thursday 7 April at Edmonton Library from 10am to 11am. Discover and explore an exciting range of folding techniques, learn how to construct your own plane and test its speed and flight in the library with friends.
Maker Space – Cardboard Construction Workshop: Thursday 7 April at Babinda Library from 10am to midday. Children can design and construct their own mode of transport, real or fanciful, from horses and cars, to boats and spaceships.
Dungeons & Dragons Adventures for beginners: Thursday 7 April at Manunda Library from 11am to midday. (Ages 12+)

Drawing and Watercolour Workshop: Monday 11 April at Stratford Library from 10am to 11am. Join local artist Julie Haysom for a drawing and watercolour workshop. Explore sketching, shading, colour and painting techniques.
White Wizard Magic Show: Monday 11 April at Earlville Library from 10.30am to 11.30am. This is a magic show that willhave children laughing and mesmerised.
Turtle Connections – Reef Virtual Connections: Tuesday 12 April at City Library from 10am to 10.45am. Gain an understanding of the biology and adaptations of sea turtles. Learn about their life cycles, breeding migrations, feeding adaptations and more.
Maker Space – Design your library bag: Tuesday 12 April at Manunda Library from 10am to 11am. Get creative and design your own library bag. Books and resources to help inspire your artwork will be provided.

Fantasy and film at Tanks Arts Centre
Dungeons & Dragons
Experience a fantasy world of swords and sorcery, storytelling, imagination and adventure at Tanks Arts Centre on Sunday 3 April, from 2pm to 5pm.
Beginners and experienced players are welcome to join the Dungeon Masters in Tank 3 as part of the Local & Vocal Youth week event.

Filmmaking workshop
Young aspiring creatives (8-12 years) can take the first steps on their filmmaking journey with a hands-on three-day workshop from 6 April to 8 April at the Tanks Arts Centre.
Working with the experienced screenPLAY team of Jasmine Bryan, Karen Jackson and Braydon Moloney, participants will plan and create a short film using their tablet or phone.
The What’s my scene workshop series will be in Tank 5 from 6 April to 8 April, 9am to 3pm.
Cost is $180 and all films will be screened at Cairns Children’s Festival in May.
