The Lower Creek community have been extremely resilient through many recent disasters of bushfires and floods.
Council’s Community Recovery Officer, Jane, worked with a local team to organise a community recovery lunch for the community on Saturday 2 September at the beautiful George’s Junction.
The locals and families who attended the lunch enjoyed a chat with the team and each other. Many of the locals also volunteer for their local fire brigade, so after a hearty barbecue lunch, they quickly left to assist with the containment of a bushfire, which was burning on the boundary of the Armidale and Kempsey LGA – known as The Trappo Gap fire.
The New England Zone Rural Fire Service has just shared an update that the Trappo Gap fire has now been contained. Well done to all involved.
The team who supported the recovery event are all Armidale locals and experienced in both recovery after disasters and volunteer firefighting.
The team on the day included, Lauren – New England North west Regional Delivery, Preparedness & Recovery Group NSW Reconstruction Authority, Sue – Recover, Adapt & Connect program HealthWISE, Nigel – Rural Support – New England Family Support and Julie Disaster Recovery – NSW Health.
It is a reminder to us all that we need to stay up to date with the latest fire information with the Hazards Near Me app: https://www.nsw.gov.au/emergency/hazards-near-me-app
