Consumer Level Recall – Potential microbial contamination of certain batches
Lucas’ Papaw Remedies is recalling several batches of Lucas’ Papaw Ointment (AUST L 13397) due to microbial contamination. The affected products come in 15g, 75g and 200g sizes.

Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is a topical ointment used to assist in the treatment of minor skin wounds, as well as skin dryness and chafing.
What should I do?
If you have a container of Lucas Papaw Ointment, check its batch number.
Batch numbers are on:
- the ‘crimp’; at the top of the 15g tube
- the bottom of the 75g and 200g containers.
If your ointment is from the affected batches, you should immediately stop using it.
Return it to the place of purchase for a refund or contact Lucas’; Papaw Remedies Customer Service on 1800 861 852.
No other batches or other Lucas’; Papaw Remedies products are being recalled at this time.
What is the problem?
Microbiological contamination was found in the above batches of Lucas’; Papaw Ointment.
The microorganisms have been identified as Aspergillus tubingensis, Sordaria humana, Penicillium paneum and Paenibacillus glucanolyticus.
What are the risks?
These moulds and bacteria pose minimal risk to the general population. There is a remote risk that individuals who are immunocompromised could become ill if they are exposed to these organisms.
