The Property Council of Australia is excited to announce that Howard Smith Wharves Chief Executive Officer Luke Fraser, has been elected as the next Queensland President of the Property Council.
Mr Fraser is a senior figure in the property industry, having been involved in several of Brisbane’s landmark developments in a career spanning over 24 years.
He has most recently served four years on the Queensland Division Council and has been a member of numerous committees and working groups over his 20-year involvement as a Committee Member for the Property Council of Australia.
Mr Fraser said that he is honoured to have been elected to this role, especially at such a significant time in Queensland’s history.
“Despite a tough few years Queensland continues to go from strength to strength and I would challenge anyone to identify a place around the world with a more exciting future,” Mr Fraser said.
“The property industry will be the engine that powers this strong trajectory – and as we navigate the path to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games our sector will be crucial in allowing our state to both capture the opportunity in front of us and successfully respond to the various challenges along the way.
“The Property Council’s priorities include continuing to work with government to tackle the housing crisis, maximising and leveraging the investment that will coincide with an event like the Olympics, and identifying how our city centres can be some of the most vibrant and dynamic in the world.
“Over the last few years, the Property Council has made significant inroads in these areas through powerful advocacy and I am looking forward to working with fellow Division Councillors and the Property Council team to build on this momentum to ensure that Queensland is positioned to compete on the world stage.” Mr Fraser said.
Mr Fraser replaces immediate Past President Andrew Hay, who led the Property Council through a challenging period during the COVID pandemic and oversaw several important advocacy wins for the industry, including the Property Council’s highly effective housing advocacy in 2022 and the shelving of Queensland’s interstate land tax model.
“Andrew’s leadership and passion for the industry have been instrumental during what has been a particularly trying time for the industry and we thank him for his service and guidance,” said Jen Williams, Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council.
“Andrew will now assume the role of Immediate Past President and continue contributing to the Property Council as a key part of our Division Council.
“I am looking forward to working with Luke and the newly formed Division Council over what will be an incredibly important two years in shaping Queensland’s future,” Ms Williams said.
The Division Council is comprised of 18 of the Queensland property industry’s leaders and draws upon the full spectrum of property’s various sectors.
