Lunar New Year in Parramatta

The City of Parramatta is set to welcome the Year of the Rat at the annual Lunar New Year celebration in Centenary Square, on Friday 7 February from 5pm – 9:30pm.

The evening of cultural fun will feature an array of music, food, performances, and workshops that the whole family can enjoy.

“Events such as Lunar New Year are a great opportunity for the community to celebrate our multicultural City,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“I would encourage locals and visitors to come and enjoy a wonderful evening of Asian culture as we ring in the Lunar New Year.”

The mainstage will come alive with performances from internationally-renowned Nanjang and Pan Korean Percussion group, Lion and Dragon dancers, Chinese folk groups and more. Later in the evening, the block dance party will feature electro artists Midnight Pool Party, Clarissa Mei and Yoni Yen.

Eventgoers can explore the many food options on offer, including Mr Wangs rainbow dumplings, Korean BBQ, and Firepop who have created some bespoke new dishes for the event. Those with a sweet tooth can try the delicious KOI Deserts or one of Mix Mix Co’s Halo-Halo creations. Lunar Lounge will also return with some brand new cocktails to try.

Families will love Lunar Land, where there will be craft workshops including umbrella painting, drum making, and Chinese calligraphy. Dancekool will also be performing and teaching some KPOP and Hip Hop dance moves.

According to lunar astrology, the Year of the Rat represents success, adaptability and strength.

Parramatta’s Lunar New Year celebrations are from 5pm to 9:30pm on Friday 7 February 2020 in Centenary Square adjacent to Parramatta Town Hall.
