Ipswich and Greater Springfield residents are invited to a free Breast Cancer Awareness Month event at Mater Health Hub, Springfield on Tuesday 1 October to learn more about risk factors for the disease.
Guest speakers include Mater breast, endocrine and general surgeon Dr Susan Bell (pictured here) who will provide a medical overview of breast cancer, the importance of early detection, family history, genetic predisposition, and the various types of breast cancer.
Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield breast care nurse Shiralee Bremmer (pictured on thumbnail image) will discuss the patient’s journey through cancer care, highlighting the critical support role of a breast care nurse.
Ms Bremmer will share practical tips on coping with a diagnosis, providing emotional support to loved ones, and the role of cancer care coordinators in treatment.
Mater Health Hub Springfield dietician Leigh Frazer will offer practical advice on which foods or dietary and exercise habits may reduce cancer risks, how good nutrition supports the body during treatment, and overall wellness strategies.
A panel discussion will be held at the end of the event for attendees to ask questions.
The free event will be held on Tuesday 1 October at Mater Health Hub, 95 Southern Cross Circuit, Springfield from noon.
