Mackay and Whitsunday operators have their say on 20-year tourism master plan
- Tourism operators and stakeholders in Mackay and the Whitsundays have contributed to the development of a new 20-year tourism plan to help shape the industry’s future.
- Destination 2045: Queensland’s Tourism Future has been the subject of regional consultation sessions across the State.
- An online survey, regional roadshows and industry consultations will roll out to build our collective vision for a powerhouse visitor economy.
The Crisafulli Government has listened to dozens of tourism operators and community stakeholders in Mackay and the Whitsundays, to help shape the future of Queensland’s tourism industry.
The Crisafulli Government’s Destination 2045: Queensland’s Tourism Future is a visionary 20-year plan to enhance Queensland’s appeal and accelerate the growth and opportunities for the sector.
With tourism supporting one in every 12 jobs across the State, the Crisafulli Government is focused on building the industry and making Queensland the number one destination for visitors.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the industry and community had to work hand in hand to create a shared vision.
“We are on the threshold of an unprecedented opportunity, with the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games spotlighting Queensland to the world,” Minister Powell said.
“This is our moment to capitalise, to innovate, and to lay down the tracks for a legacy that will benefit not just today’s Queenslanders but generations to follow.
“Queenslanders’ insights and participation on the discussion paper’s key themes of ecotourism, investment attraction, tourism experience development, events, access and connectivity, and leveraging the 2032 legacy will be invaluable.”
“Queenslanders know their own communities better than anyone, and I encourage everyone to contribute to the consultation process so we can chart a path forward.
“Together, we can craft a vision for Queensland that reflects the aspirations and spirit of future generations.”
Local MP for Mackay Nigel Dalton said the region was a vital contributor to the State’s tourism economy.
“We know people use our area as a jumping off point to see the Great Barrier Reef. But Mackay has so much more to offer,” Mr Dalton said.
“These consultation sessions are a great opportunity for our voices to be heard.”
