Mad Max: Fury Road Roars Into White Night Reimagined

  • Minister for Creative Industries

The post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max will burst off the screen and into Melbourne in a spectacular world-first event, with the Andrews Labor Government unveiling the final part of the White Night Reimagined program.

Taking over the forecourt of Melbourne Museum, Mad Max: Fury Road will be a standout of the White Night Reimagined program, running from 22-24 August.

Inspired by the work of Australian screen legend George Miller and his multi-Academy Award-winning film Mad Max: Fury Road, the unmissable experience will bring together live performance, film footage, projections and special effects to bring the Mad Max world to life.

It will feature some of the film’s most wild and high-octane vehicles, framed against video mapped on to the façade of the Royal Exhibition Building and set to a soundtrack.

Fans of the film – considered one of the greatest action films – will get up close to the Doof Wagon, the Gigahorse (coined “the Cadillac on steroids” by Miller) and the iconic Razor Cola Interceptor.

Mad Max: Fury Road will be staged in the Carlton Gardens Spiritual Realm, with a running time of 15 minutes. Multiple performances will take place over each of the three evenings of White Night Reimagined, with exact program times to be confirmed.

White Night Reimagined will take place over three main precincts – Birrarung Marr, Treasury Gardens and Carlton Gardens, with each location taking on a distinct theme.

A 10-metre long lion named “The Guardian” will also roam Carlton Gardens and trees will be illuminated with stories that celebrate our First Peoples stories.

Birrarung Marr will become the Physical Realm, showcasing a new work by Amsterdam street theatre group Close Act involving dozens of acrobats, aerialists, singers and actors.

Treasury Gardens will be the Sensory Realm, featuring works inspired by the five senses.
