Strathbogie Shire Council has appointed a Senior Associate from Maddocks Law Firm as probity officer to oversee the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) recruitment process.
This appointment comes after Council’s decision at its recent Ordinary Meeting to engage an independent probity officer to provide objective scrutiny of the recruitment process and whether the prescribed probity requirements have been followed.
Council has made this decision in the interest of providing community confidence that an ethical and comprehensive process has been undertaken.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Cr Amanda McClaren said Council is now embarking on the interview stage of the CEO recruitment process.
“We have received strong interest from a very impressive pool of candidates for the CEO position and we’re looking forward to interviewing applicants,” Mayor McClaren explained.
“As a Council, we made the decision to engage Maddocks to oversee the CEO recruitment process as they are a reputable independent law firm based in Melbourne.
Selecting the CEO is the most important undertaking for a Council and we want to be able to provide our community with the confidence that we have undertaken a process that is consistent with best practice and a merit-based appointment is made.”
The probity officer will produce a report to Council on the observed process and decision making and Council will table this report at the conclusion of the process.
