Brisbane band Sheppard will headline four days of entertainment during the historic NRL Magic Round Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.

The NRL announced today that ARIA-nominated Sheppard would perform on Friday night (May 10) as part of the first ever NRL Magic Round Brisbane.

Additionally, the NRL has confirmed that A.R.C. (Thursday, May 9), Stafford Brothers (Saturday, May 11) and The Preatures (Sunday, May 12) would perform as part of NRL Magic Round Brisbane, which will see all eight Round Nine matches played at Suncorp Stadium.

NRL Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Abdo said the quartet of Australian artists would complement the concept of NRL Magic Round Brisbane.

“Magic Round is unique and it is all about entertainment,” NRL Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Abdo said.

“It will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible talent our game possesses but also some of the wonderful artists this country possesses.

“We have hand-picked these artists to enable us to create a festival-like atmosphere across the four days.”

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said Queensland was globally known as a world-class event host.

“Coming to an event in Queensland is about so much more than the event itself, and the exciting entertainment program supporting the NRL Magic Round Brisbane is great proof of that,” Ms Jones said.

“For those visiting Brisbane for Magic Round, there are unique tourism experiences on offer – from the city’s newly opened five-star hotels, to a thriving food culture and our famous beaches and islands.

“Of course, Queensland is also a proud and passionate rugby league state and Brisbane will come alive with fans from across the country converging on the best rectangular stadium in Australia.”

Sheppard hails from Brisbane, while Stafford Brothers are originally from Gold Coast. Darren Middleton, from supergroup A.R.C (Antipodean Rock Collective) and originally from Powderfinger, is also from Brisbane.

“Having the first ever Magic Round in our home town is incredibly exciting for us and for Amy, Emma, and I to be asked to perform makes it all the better,” Sheppard’s George Sheppard said.

“We’re huge NRL fans and there’s nothing like the atmosphere of being at Suncorp Stadium. We’ll have our game faces on when we step on stage to entertain the fans, and don’t be surprised if we’re sporting our favourite teams’ colours too.”

The event is supported via the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland and Brisbane City Council via Brisbane Marketing.

Supporters are being given an opportunity to win a meet and greet – and access to rehearsals at Suncorp Stadium – with the performing artists for Magic Round via a competition on nrl.com.
