Magical mural captured in colour

Artist Hayden Dewar has recently completed a mural at the Civic Drive Outdoor Performance Centre in Greensborough.

Made possible by Major Roads Victoria funding, the colourful artwork spans the entire length of the curved wall at Civic Drive.

Drawing inspiration from native flora and fauna, several species are depicted in the artwork, including Eltham Copper butterflies, a brush tail possum, kookaburra, blue tongue lizard, musk lorikeet and eucalyptus branch.

Hayden describes his concept as representing “play and the imagination of children. The side wall features a young girl who is dreaming of a beautiful nature-filled place… she is surrounded by the vulnerable Eltham Copper Butterflies, one of which rests on her fingers.”

Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said “public art is a wonderful way to support our thriving arts community, while creating more welcoming local spaces.”

“This vibrant mural is sure to delight local families, school groups and workers who already enjoy and utilise the space,” he said.

Painting began in late April, and took approximately two weeks to complete.
