Maintenance Works To Begin At Sorrento And Portsea Piers

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is protecting the much-loved Sorrento and Portsea piers, with vital repair and maintenance works starting in coming months.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne said the repair and maintenance works will ensure both piers are safe and can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

At Sorrento Pier repairs will be made to the low landing piles and fenders. The low landing is regularly used by tour boats and other recreational vessels and is also known as a good fishing spot, particularly for King George whiting and squid.

Pile replacement and renewal of the berthing fenders will take place at Portsea Pier, as well as works to make the structure more resilient. The pier is popular with divers and is well known for fishing and marine life.

Both piers are expected to be completed by the beginning of summer.

These works are in addition to an $18 million package for piers and jetties across Victoria from the Victorian Budget 2022-23.

Rebuilding and safety works will also be undertaken to piers and jetties at Hampton, Rye, Flinders, McLoughlins Beach, Raymond Island, Lakes Entrance, Williamstown and Mornington.

As stated by Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne

“We’re delivering these vital repair and maintenance works to Sorrento and Portsea piers to ensure they’re safe and can continue to be enjoyed by the community well into the future.”

As stated by Member for Nepean Chris Brayne
