Major boost received for North Park Multipurpose Clubroom Development

Sporting facilities at North Park will be upgraded after it was announced that Northern Grampians Shire Council was successful in obtaining a $500,000 grant towards the project from the Coalition Government’s Community Sport Infrastructure Grant program.

Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan MP, was on hand at North Park on Saturday to make the announcement to Swifts Football Netball Club members.

Upgrades to North Park will include construction of multi-sport, female friendly and unisex change rooms, as well as other public amenities and social spaces, to promote further participation in sports and activities that operate out of the facility.

Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan MP said, “The Coalition Government has prioritised investment in local grassroots sport because we recognise the wider health, social and community benefits that come from greater activity and participating in sport.”

“This investment of $500,000 will go to redevelop the clubrooms at North Park, which are currently home to the Swifts Football Netball Club. This will provide a huge boost for sport in Stawell.”

“It is a key priority of our Government to promote the social and health benefits of physical activity and sport. Our investment to upgrade sporting facilities and infrastructure will provide a real encouragement for those local residents not currently active.”

Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, “This is a great project and it’s going to be very exciting to see so many users benefit from these upgrades, in particular the sportswomen who will now have appropriate change room facilities.”

“These upgrades will be greatly appreciated by all in the Stawell community.”

Council has been working closely with members of the Stawell Recreation Advisory Group, who represent a wide number of sporting and community organisations, throughout the duration of the North Park Multipurpose Clubroom Development project.

Construction on the facility is expected to get underway in June 2019.
