Major Clean-Up Coming To Victoria’s Roadsides

VIC Premier

More graffiti, grass and weeds will be removed from roadsides as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s major maintenance blitz across the state’s road network.

Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll said an additional $5.5 million will be allocated to cleaning up the state’s road network, on top of the $780 million already invested in maintaining Victoria’s road assets.

Under the additional funding, crews will carry out graffiti removal along major metropolitan roads such as the Eastern Freeway, Monash Freeway, Westgate Freeway, Western Ring Road, and Frankston Freeway.

More inspections and cleaning will also be carried out along other busy arterial roads, freeway gantries and other high-profile locations.

Graffiti that is deemed to be offensive or dangerous to the public will also be removed more quickly under the new roadside cleaning regime.

In regional Victoria, funding will be allocated to a second round of roadside grass removal, with $2.5 million from this package set to enable crews to carry out hundreds of additional kilometres of roadside mowing, weed spraying and vegetation management after widespread above-average rainfall.

Graffiti removal in regional areas will target roadsides in town centres, ensuring our regional hubs are looking their best.

It’s all part of the Labor Government’s continued investment in maintaining the state’s road network, with more than 1,500 individual road maintenance projects set to be delivered across the state between now and mid-2023.

The works will rebuild, repair and resurface more than 1,600 kilometres of the state’s roads, keeping millions of drivers connected to education, employment, family and friends each and every day.

As stated by Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll

“As well as improving safety, capacity and connectivity across Victoria’s roads, we’re also investing in how our road network looks.”

“Between now and mid-2023, everyone travelling on Victoria’s roads can expect to see our crews out in force, removing unsightly graffiti, grass and weeds across the network.”
