Major contracts awarded as Bunbury transformation continues

  • Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project powering ahead with contracts awarded for next stages of work
  • Detailed infrastructure design for boat harbour development underway
  • $78.1 million Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront Stage 3 to drive economic opportunities for Bunbury

The Cook Government’s significant transformation of Bunbury’s waterfront is gathering pace, with planning for development of Casuarina Boat Harbour moving to the next phase.

The $78.1 million Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront (TBW) Stage 3 project involves new breakwaters at Casuarina Boat Harbour and Koombana Bay, which willsupport land-based development of a hub for marine services together with enhanced space for visitors and the local community.

The State Government has awarded a $1.8 million detailed design contract to engineering consultant Advisian, to support development of key sites on the harbour and establish boat lifting, marine service and repair precinct and future boat stacking operations.

The design work will include the extension of Casuarina Drive and access to the future northern breakwater, services to existing and future lease sites and harbour infrastructure. It will also maximise opportunities for improved public spaces and amenities.

Meanwhile, Leeuwin Civil has been awarded a $1.1 million package to construct seawalls along Casuarina Beach and Jetty Baths as part of the Casuarina Drive Redevelopment.

Another contract award is expected imminently for upgrades to the trailer parking area at the boat ramp, while local Aboriginal business Koormal Group has been contracted to construct a new toilet block at the facility.

As the first project to be delivered as part of Stage 3 last year, the boat ramp was upgraded to a modern facility with a floating jetty and two-lane ramp designed to better accommodate large trailers and wide vessels.

Design of the harbour’s new northern breakwater and the eastern breakwater in Koombana Bay continues with the dredging tender process to commence in 2024.
