The Marshall Government has announced that the Darlington Upgrade Project has reached a major milestone, with northbound motorists able to access the newly-constructed lowered motorway under Tonsley Boulevard for the first time from Saturday, 2 November.
This will allow northbound motorists travelling from Main South Road and the Southern Expressway to travel non-stop along the lowered motorway to South Road, north of Tonsley Boulevard.
From 6pm, Saturday, 2 November, northbound traffic needing access to Tonsley Boulevard will be required to use the South Road surface road.
“The Marshall Government is continuing to build South Australia through the $11.9 billion pipeline of infrastructure works over the next four years,” said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.
“The State Liberal Government is investing in congestion busting infrastructure across metropolitan Adelaide to reduce travel times and improve road safety.
“The Darlington Upgrade Project is continuing to progress and today we are announcing another traffic switch that will help people get home or work faster and safer.
“The opening of this section of the lowered motorway to northbound traffic will improve traffic flow for motorists heading into the city for work or as they go about their daily lives.
“We ask that motorists please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site and observe speed and lane restrictions.”
The following traffic restrictions will be in place from 6am – 6pm on Saturday, 2 November:
- The lowered motorway will be closed in both directions between the Ayliffes/South/Shepherds Hill roads intersection and the Southern Expressway to accommodate line marking changes. Motorists travelling south will be detoured onto the Main South Road surface road via Sturt Road, then Marion Road to access the Southern Expressway.
- A reminder that the Southern Expressway on-ramp from Main South Road at Flinders Drive remains closed until mid-November for piling works.
- Lane closures and speed restrictions will be in place on the northbound carriageway of South Road surface road between Ayliffes Road and Selgar Avenue.
