The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering the biggest ever commitment to education infrastructure in Tasmania’s history.
The new $5 million major redevelopment at St Marys District School will see 320 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 benefit from the works, which are now complete. Such redevelopments are an important part of our plan to grow the economy, create jobs, and invest in essential services including in education.
These new facilities will provide contemporary learning environments, including for music and performing arts, improved staff and support areas, amenities and administration facilities.
Works have included the modernisation of site and building services and took into account the community’s connection with the school’s history and original building facade, ensuring its preservation.
Cleverly designed by architect 6ty and built by Fairbrother, these new buildings will be well utilised by staff and students for many years to come.
St Marys District School continues to educate children from a wide geographical area incorporating Upper Esk, Mathinna, Fingal, St Marys, Bicheno, Coles Bay, Scamander, Beaumaris, Four Mile Creek and Falmouth.
The school also supports Birth to five year-olds throughout the Fingal Valley and East Coast via early learning programs such as Launching into Learning (LiL) and Learning in Families Together (LIFT).
A total of $184.2 million is being invested across the state over the forward estimates in capital works which includes new schools, school upgrades, new Early Learning Hubs and school farm redevelopments.
