Majors on/off ramp step closer

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Majors Road on/off ramp – providing southern suburbs commuters with better access to the Southern Expressway – is a step closer with community consultation now open.

The Government is seeking input from the community to help inform the design of the new Majors Road interchange to ensure it meets community needs and expectations. To get involved people are encouraged to visit an information stall between 10am and 3pm at any of these locations:

  • Happy Valley Shopping Centre (Tuesday, 16 August 2022)
  • Hallett Cove Shopping Centre (Wednesday, 17 August 2022)
  • Reynella Bunnings (Thursday, 18 August 2022)

Further an online survey is now open until Wednesday, 7 September 2022. To provide feedback or register for project updates, visit:

The $120 million investment in this project by the Malinauskas State Labor Government and Albanese Federal Labor Government will provide improved access to popular facilities such as the Glenthorne National Park and the growing local sporting precinct.

Site investigation works, including geotechnical and service investigations, are also being undertaken to help inform the project design.

Majors Road is an important arterial road, providing a key connection between Lonsdale Road and Main South Road, while the Southern Expressway supports economic activity in Adelaide’s southern commercial and industrial areas, and facilitates tourist travel on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

We are doing what we said we would and delivering on another Malinauskas Labor election promise, this time the much-needed new Majors Road interchange on the Southern Expressway.

Community consultation will be critical in the design process, and we look forward to engaging with local residents and businesses from this week.

We are getting on with a project the people of the southern suburbs have been calling for.

This project will result in improved access to local facilities while also giving motorists better access to the Southern Expressway, easing congestion on other arterial roads as a result.

Quotes attributable to Amanda Rishworth

More than 13,000 vehicles use Majors Road each day, and that number is expected to grow with the increasing popularity of facilities in the area.

Meanwhile, about 74,000 vehicles use the Southern Expressway between Darlington and the Reynella Interchange each day.

We listened to the people of the Southern Suburbs and are delivering on an important piece of local road infrastructure that will make their everyday lives easier.

Quotes attributable to Erin Thompson

We are committed to finalising a design for the project that will have little to no impact on nearby Glenthorne National Park while still providing benefits for commuters and the local community.
