We know that Easter is one of the busiest times on our roads so we urge all drivers to take advantage of a Driver Reviver site on Monday or simply take a rest break during any long trip.
SES volunteers will be working at the long weekend to help make sure drivers get home safely. Driver Reviver sites will be operating on Easter Monday, April 22, from 10am to 4pm, aiming to help reduce driver tiredness by providing a break, a free cuppa and a chat.
Driver Reviver Sites are located at:
- Parramatta Creek – Bass Highway, between Latrobe and Deloraine
- Fossey River – Murchison Highway near Mt Pearce
- Sideling Outlook – Tasman Highway between Launceston & Scottsdale
- Franklin River – Lyell Highway near Mt Arrowsmith
The usual site at St Peters Pass has had to be cancelled due to road works.
Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Tasmania Police will be targeting high risk driving behaviour like speeding, mobile phone usage and drink and drug driving throughout the State to keep families safe this holiday period.
We are asking drivers to be especially careful this year and keep the ‘Fatal Five’ in mind every time they get behind the wheel. In short, we want people to buckle up, watch their speed, stay under the alcohol limit, pay attention to the road and rest if they are tired.
As at 16 April 2019, there have been 10 deaths on Tasmanian roads and there have been 89 serious casualties. This compares with 12 fatalities and 82 serious casualties at the same time last year. One of these numbers may be somebody you know or love.
These statistics are unacceptable and only strengthen the Tasmanian Government’s resolve to work towards the elimination of road trauma-related fatalities and serious injuries.
This year’s Easter Road Safety Campaign will run from Thursday, April 18, to Tuesday, April 23 2019 – so do yourself and your family a favour and stop at a Driver Reviver site or simply take a quick rest break during any a long journey.
