Making Great Eastern Drive even greater

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to a safer driving experience for both Tasmanian locals and visitors alike. We also want to attract more visitors to our regions to fully experience all that Tasmania has to offer.

Work is progressing on a number of upgrades along the Great Eastern Drive as part of our single biggest investment in Tasmania’s tourist roads through the $72 million .

Work is being completed over a number of stages. Stage two works are scheduled to start this coming Monday, 30 September.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government has allocated $2.5 million to the stage two projects, which include improvements to the Coles Bay Junction and dedicated right turn lanes at Basin Creek and Flagstaff Road.

Stage three is also progressing, with the tender for these projects due to be advertised today.

Stage three works will include road widening and safety treatments at entries to popular tourism experiences.

All of these works on the Great Eastern Drive are part of our commitment to ensuring Tasmania’s reputation as a premium destination is protected, for locals and visitors alike. And it’s only possible thanks to our policies, which are growing the economy and carefully managing the budget.
