The Northern Bellarine has long been in need of a complete aquatic and leisure centre, and that’s why a Matthew Guy Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government will provide $20 million towards a new state-of-the-art facility.
Stage 1 of the build, which includes the construction of a new 50 metre outdoor pool and change pavilion, got underway in May, meaning residents in Drysdale, Curlewis, Portarlington, St Leonards, Indented Head and surrounds will soon no longer have to travel to Geelong or Ocean Grove to access a pool year-round.
The $20 million commitment from the Victorian Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s will go towards Stage 2 of the build, which will deliver an indoor facility with separate warm water pool, learn to swim and play pools to provide residents of all ages something to suit their needs.
The new centre will also host a café, sauna, steam room, gymnasium and fitness room to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy, said the new aquatic and leisure centre will give residents on the Bellarine a world-class fitness facility that will be their local.
“This important local project will have a big impact on those living on the Bellarine, who have for too long gone without a quality aquatic facility,” Mr Guy said.
“This commitment will support many local jobs during and after construction, helping the region to recover and rebuild.”
Liberal Candidate for Bellarine, Donnie Grigau, said his community has long advocated the need for a specialised facility, providing something for everyone in the community.
“This commitment by a Matthew Guy Liberals and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government will give people on the North Bellarine, a local community facility.” Mr Grigau said.
“Rather than driving to Geelong or Ocean Grove, this centre will provide a year-round indoor pool just around the corner.”
