In egg-citing news the much-loved mother duck sculpture in Berry’s Alexandra Park has been replicated and reunited with her ducklings after the original public art sculpture was stolen.
In 2020, a set of bronze ducks sculptures were installed in Alexandra Park following a donation by long term Berry residents Robin and Rosmond Brooks. In February 2023 the mother duck was stolen, sending locals into a flap and flocking together to replace the artwork.
The volunteers who maintain Alexandra Park have built a legacy of decorating the duck family for special events to ensure the sculptures are a talking point for residents and visitors.
Shoalhaven City Council’s Bronwyn Coulston, Manager of Arts and Culture played a pivotal role in coordinating the replacement, along with Council’s construction team who reinstalled the beloved duck.
“Without feather ado, we welcome this delightful artwork back and witness the joy she brings to our community,” said Mayor Amanda Findley.
“It’s a tale of perseverance over fowl play that reminds us of the importance of public art,” Cr Findley added.
The disappearance of the mother duck had left an empty nest syndrome gripping the hearts of the community. Let’s celebrate the return of the mama duck to her rightful place as the protago-nest of this eggs-traordinary story.
