Mill Park police with assistance from Operation Trinity units have arrested a man following an alleged petrol theft in a stolen vehicle in Thomastown this morning.
Officers responded to reports of a white Toyota Prius being involved in an alleged theft of petrol from a service station in Spencer Street about 12.30am.
Following a patrol of the area, police allegedly spotted the stolen Toyota in the vicinity of Lacey Street about 1am.
Officers maintained observations from a distance and successfully deployed stop sticks, bringing the Toyota to a complete stop on Dalton Road.
The driver allegedly dumped the vehicle and took off on foot.
Officers arrested a man a short time later near a property in Graham Court.
A 33-year-old Reservoir man is currently assisting police with enquiries.
Investigators allege that the Toyota was stolen from an address in Glenroy on 12 June.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Operation Trinity, which runs every single night until dawn is Victoria Police’s most well-resourced frontline policing operation at present.
There are 70 additional police rostered each night, on top of existing patrols.
This includes frontline officers, Highway Patrol members, the Dog Squad, Public Order Response Team, and Air Wing.
As a result of this intense focus, police have made over 1,400 arrests relating to burglaries and car thefts – with the overwhelming majority of these offenders’ children. A further 2300 night shift arrests have also been made for other criminal offending due to the strong police presence as part of Operation Trinity.
