Man charged after 10 firearms and ammunition seized – state’s north west

A man has been charged after 10 firearms, ammunition and drugs were seized in the state’s northwest yesterday.

About 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 2 October 2024), officers attached to Central North Criminal Investigation Unit – part of the Central North Police District – commenced investigations after receiving a report of an alleged domestic violence-related incident.

As part of inquiries, about 3pm on the same day, investigators attended a home on Tilpa-Tonga Road, Tilpa, where they executed a search warrant.

It will be alleged during the search, police located and seized 10 firearms – three of which were prohibited – over 1170 rounds of ammunition and a substance believed to be cannabis.

All items were seized for forensic examination. No one was in the home at the time of the incident.

Following further inquiries, about 8.15pm, a 41-year-old man was arrested in Tilpa. A search of the man resulted in police allegedly locating seven rounds of ammunition, which were also seized.

He was taken to Bourke Police Station where he was charged with:

– Possess >3 unregistered firearms, 1 is prohibited/pistol-SI,

– Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) w/o authority-T2,

– Four counts of possess ammunition w/o holding license/permit/authority,

– Possess prohibited drug,

– Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited,

– Not keep firearm safely prohibited firearm, and

– Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

Police will allege in court the man does not hold a firearms licence or a permit to store or be in possession of firearms.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Bourke Local Court today (Thursday 3 October 2024).
