A man has been charged after he allegedly rammed a police vehicle with a car on Sydney’s north shore.
About 10pm on Thursday 28 November 2024, officers from North Shore Police Area Command attended Henry Lawson Reserve, McMahons Point, following reports of a concern for welfare.
An officer approached a car and attempted to speak to a male driver, who allegedly drove off and hit a signpost on a grass verge.
The officer returned to his vehicle and attempted to stop the car.
The driver allegedly accelerated harshly and collided with the police car twice, causing significant damage to both cars.
The driver, an 18-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He suffered facial injuries from the crashes and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The 18-year-old man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition, under police guard.
The officer suffered a sore neck and knee but did not require further treatment.
The man was discharged from hospital about 6.30am yesterday (Friday 29 November 2024) and he was taken to Chatswood Police Station.
He was charged with use offensive weapon to prevent police investigation; assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm; negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm) and drive while licence cancelled.
The man was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court yesterday (Friday 29 November 2024), where he was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday 10 December 2024.
