Man charged after attempting to light fire at a car dealership – Granville

About 10am today (Tuesday 23 July 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a man causing a disturbance at a car dealership on Church Street, Granville.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and arrested a 69-year-old man at the scene.

It will be alleged the man threatened staff with a hammer and poured petrol in the showroom floor before igniting it. The fire was extinguished by staff members.

A woman was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation by NSW Ambulance and paramedics.

The man was taken to Merrylands Police Station where he was charged with three counts of use offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence, three counts of common assault, malicious damage and damage property by fire.

He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on the Wednesday 24 July 2024.
